What Is Photogrammetry? (Answered In Under 100 Words)

The Answer

Photogrammetry is the process of creating a digital representation of a place or object in reality, by collecting multiple photographs of the subject from varying vantage points and compiling those images together in software like Pix4Dmapper.

Photogrammetry initially yields a ‘Point’ or ‘Ray Cloud’ which is the software’s interpretation of the collected data, which then allows for additional outputs such as Orthomosaic Maps, Digital Surface/Terrain Models (DSMs & DTMs), Contour Line Maps, and Interactive 3D Models.

The various outputs from photogrammetry allow for accurate distance and volumetric measurements, and are utilized in industries like agriculture, construction, and energy.
